I’m not sure what to think about Disney-Pixar’s “UP”
June 14th, 2009 at 8:33The other day I watched the new movie ‘UP’ from Disney-Pixar.
I’m not entirely sure what to think about it. Yes, it was a great movie. Yes it causes an emotional response from everyone who watches it and happens to be human. Still, I feel weird about it. It could have been because the kid was an annoying chuckle-head, the bird was an annoying siren, and the dog was an annoying dope.
The main premise of the story was absolutely great.
(And here come the spoilers! Go watch the movie, then come read the rest.)

A socially awkward kid has a famous explorer for a hero. He meets a crazy girl who also has the same hero and loves adventure. The two of them are friends forever. They get married an plan on going to paradise falls their whole lives. The couple then accidently get old and she gets very sick. Within the first ten minutes you will be crying like a little girl when she passes away.
From there the story gets fun as the old man decides to finally go to Paradise Falls to honor her memory.
The adventure begins…
Once again Pixar did not give out very much in the trailer for this film. It wasn’t quite the same ‘under promise, over deliver’ that was employed with Wall-e. However it is nice to get emotionally punched in the face when you least expect it sometimes.
I’m actually planning on seeing this movie again in the theaters, because I do need to make up my mind on it. I am not sold on the 3D experience quite yet. It could be because my theater sucks and has a tiny screen. The picture always looks a little blurry with the glasses. Perhaps I need to find the optimal seating for 3D movies.
I was planning on waiting until it came out on DVD to watch it again, but who has that kind of time?
